  Porn star Rocco Siffredi, who appears on Italian chat shows, claims he has less sex than Silvio Berlusconi.
  The debate raging in Italy about Silvio Berlusconi's alleged taste for teenage girls and prostitutes has taken a surreal turn, after the country's top porn star weighed in with high praise for the prime minister. "The truth is," said Rocco Siffredi, "that Italians are proud of someone like Berlusconi who is 74, loves sex and has a good sex life – and I don't just mean working-class Italians."
  Siffredi, 46, was named by an adult film industry listing as one of the world's 50 top porn stars and is now a celebrity, appearing on Italian chat shows. One guest, Nadia Macrì, described Berlusconi lying on a bed calling out "Next" as women queued to have sex with him.
  Berlusconi's troubles deepened tonight when for the first time one of the women named in the prostitution investigation admitted that she had sex with him. Maria Ester Garcia Polanco, 25, denied that she did so in exchange for money but her admission makes her the first of the so-called "bunga bunga" girls – a group of 14 women whom Milan prosecutors allege played striptease games and had sex with the prime minister – to state publicly that she slept with him.
  Polanco told La Repubblica she did so out of gratitude because he had paid for urgent medical treatment for her five-year-old daughter and had helped her find work as a television showgirl.
  Prosecutors are also examining allegations that Berlusconi paid to sleep with Moroccan nightclub dancer Karima el-Mahroug when she was 17. It has also been alleged that Berlusconi pressured police to free her when she was later arrested on suspicion of theft. On Thursday, in a statement clearly directed at Berlusconi, the Vatican demanded "a more robust morality and sense of legality" from Italy's rulers.
  The fallout from the continuing revelations has created the most serious test of Berlusconi's premiership. Opposition leader Pierluigi Bersani has vowed to collect 10 million signatures calling for Berlusconi to step down.   Half of the Italians interviewed for a poll as the scandal broke said the latest headlines would not affect Berlusconi and could even push up his ratings. Scepticism was not hard to find on Rome's streets this weekend. "He should be less obvious about it, but he is free to do what he wants – look at Bill Clinton," said Francesco Nobili, 33, a personal trainer. Salvatore, a blacksmith, said: "I would give my daughter a slap if she went to a party at Berlusconi's, but I still vote for him since I approve of his politics."
  Berlusconi's fightback got under way with video messages claiming that his parties were innocent affairs and that magistrates had operated outside the law by wire-tapping his guests. Supporters were drafted onto chat shows to pour doubt on el-Mahroug's claims that Berlusconi knew she was under age.
  Siffredi, who crossed paths with Mahroug on a talk show on Tuesday, said he suspected that Berlusconi would not worry too much about a girl's real age if she looked over 20. He described Berlusconi as a sex addict. "I have sex one half of a half of a half of the times he does," he said in a Facebook video. By mixing power with sex, he added, "by doing to whoever you want what you want", Berlusconi was living out his own fantasies.
  That approach, he added, would not lose him votes in Italy. "Just as my appeal is based on being a family man off the set, Berlusconi understands that being a family man is important, as is staying on the right side of the church," he said.

In pratica persone che vengono fatte votare per questo o quel candidato in cambio di denaro. La prima denuncia è arrivata da Libero Mancuso, in campo per Sinistra e Libertà, che ha segnalato la presenza al voto in diverse zone della città come Barra, San Giovanni, Secondigliano, Scampia, Piscinola, Poggioreale ed altre ancora, di associazioni, comitati e cittadini «che notoriamente fanno riferimento al centrodestra». As her gripping testimony, décolletage and muted leopard-print top drove up ratings on a channel owned by mr. Berlusconi, ms. Mahroug said she had never had sex with him — “he never even laid a finger on me” — and never asked for 5 million euros ($6.7 million) to keep quiet. “i’m capable of exaggerating, but not that,” she said.

Ms. Mahroug seemed unfazed by the suggestion that wiretapped phone conversations published in the italian press last week might contradict her. (in one, she said she had attended the prime minister’s parties since she was 16.) nor was she moved by prosecutors’ allegations that mr. Berlusconi had described her as a niece of egypt’s president when the prime minister helped release her from police custody for theft last may.

neither, it seems, do many italians. Ms. Mahroug’s performance was the latest installment in a surreal and very italian tragicomedy — one that blurs fact and fiction, reality and reality television — in a land where the border between appearance and reality has long been hazy, both in and out of politics.

In this episode, magistrates recently announced that they were investigating whether mr. Berlusconi gave ms. Mahroug and other women cash, gifts and rent-free housing in exchange for sex. But the full drama has been airing for the 17 years that mr. Berlusconi has been italy’s most colorful politician, playing to an audience shaped by the sensationalist television culture he helped create in his three decades as italy’s largest private broadcaster.

Today, the dramatic tension is rising. Mr. Berlusconi appears less the leader of a western european democracy than a character in a late roman imperial drama, whose actors seem powerless to control their fates against larger currents of destiny. “he is, in a certain sense, a prisoner of this world that he created,” said mario calabresi, the editor of the turin daily la stampa.

As described in the italian press, it is a world in which older men hold court and flirt with leggy showgirls and where middle-aged women, a prime audience for mr. Berlusconi’s channels and an important bloc in his electorate, swoon over young male heartthrobs. It is also a world in which bad girls confess that they just want to leave “the world of spectacle” to get married and settle down, as ms. Mahroug said in her interview, to the applause of the audience.

Gently prodded by alfonso signorini, a host on mr. Berlusconi’s channels and the editor of chi, a tabloid owned by the berlusconi family and central to its image-building, ms. Mahroug described a rough life.

She said she was raped at age 9 by two uncles in morocco, a claim her father is contesting in the press, and moved to italy with her mother, where she struggled in school and turned to petty theft. She said was ashamed of being moroccan, so told people that she was egyptian.

“i invented a parallel life,” she said.

“you invented a parallel life,” mr. Signorini echoed. Not quite an admission of guilt, the line became a running theme in the interview — and the key to understanding the entire scandal, if not italy itself.

How can it be, many non-italians ask, that mr. Berlusconi is still in power? The basic answer is simple: Politics. A growing number of italians would probably change the channel if they saw an alternative, but the left is weak and the center unfocused, and for now the prime minister has a parliamentary majority, if narrow. His fate now lies with his coalition partner, the northern league, which is growing increasingly restive, and no one has ruled out early elections.

But then there are the parallel lives. Average italians express such disdain for their politicians, and for the many scandals they have lived through, that they can see the latest drama unfolding on one plane while they try to get on with their lives on another. Italy is a survival culture, steeped in that most time-honored survival mechanism: Fatalistic resignation.

Since the roman empire, politics here has been seen as a means to power and money. Even today, italy remains a land where complex networks of connections and family ties can still, as in feudal times, count more than merit or position, whether in getting a job or a bank loan. In my experience, italians have a highly sophisticated understanding of power dynamics, a keen sense of whom you have to say yes to, and with whom you can get away with saying no.

In the wiretaps to emerge in the scandal, dozens of women appear to have been encouraged by their families and friends to get as close to mr. Berlusconi as possible so that he might somehow help out in business dealings. He remains the biggest patron in a patronage society, and many italians can understand that.

There is also an entrenched catholic culture of forgiveness. Written on the facade of the justice ministry in downtown rome are the words “ministry of grace and justice,” in that order.

Mr. Berlusconi, who has denied all wrongdoing, has repeatedly said that it is outrageous for magistrates to leak wiretaps from preliminary investigations to the press without sanctions. (a bill his government advanced that would restrict wiretapping has stalled in parliament.) the prime minister has repeeatedly depicted magistrates as a self-contained caste, a de facto political opposition that is out to get him. In fact, italians show little faith in their slow and chaotic justice system, and many shrug off the scandal. “what do you expect? Judges are judges” is a common refrain.

Lately, however, the particular details of this scandal are proving too much for at least some italians, including thousands of women who, disgusted by the wiretaps, have signed a petition calling for mr. Berlusconi’s ouster.

“do you have a nurse’s outfit?” the television agent lele mora asks one young woman he is inviting to a party at mr. Berlusconi’s home, according to one transcript of a wiretap. “go out and get one today,” he adds, telling her to wear nothing underneath except white garters. In another, mr. Mora likens the villa to michael jackson’s house. “wow, neverland,” she answers.

It is not always easy to translate between italian and american sensibilities. There is no good english word for “veline,” the scantily clad vanna white-like showgirls who smile and prance on television, doing dance numbers even in the middle of talk shows. And there is no word in italian for accountability. The closest is “responsibilità” — responsibility — which lacks the concept that actions can carry consequences.

There is, however, an english word for mr. Berlusconi’s television shows, and it is campy. The late-night program where ms. Mahroug appeared, “kalispera,” tapped into deep currents in italian society — family, food, motherhood, nostalgia; randy old goats and leggy young blondes — and distorted them into a grotesque tableau.

After a segment in which the show’s golden retriever goes out clubbing in milan and an interlude in which mr. Signorini, in tapered plaid pants and a red sweater vest, danced the charleston with another comely guest, it was time for the sit-down with ms. Mahroug.

Beneath dramatic dim lighting, the 18-year-old said she had been introduced to mr. Berlusconi by a friend who explained that ms. Mahroug was going through a rough patch. “i told him everything in all sincerity,” ms. Mahroug said of mr. Berlusconi. “except my name, age, and” — here she smiled a bit — “my country.”

if the classic definition of irony is a fundamental tension between what something is supposed to mean and what it actually means, between who is in on the joke and who is not, it is difficult to know if such a display is deeply ironic — or so far beyond irony as to be unironic.

Whatever it is, it is very italian. This is, after all, the culture that invented the baroque, with its trompe l’oeil ceilings, false doors, facades that disguise multiple layers and facades that disguise nothing at all. In his years in public life, mr. Berlusconi has blurred the line between image and reality. Or rather, he has made a brilliant career on the fundamental italian truth that image is reality.

In a video address broadcast last week, a quietly seething mr. Berlusconi said prosecutors had violated the constitution and their treatment of his party guests had been “unworthy of a state of law.” “i’m serene, and you should be serene too, because the truth always wins,” he said. As to which truth — for that, the audience will just have to stay tuned.

MILANO - Avrebbe già ricevuto una sostanziale «approvazione» da parte del premier Silvio Berlusconi la proposta di legge contro «l'ingiusta intercettazione» depositata il 28 ottobre (nei giorni in cui esplodeva il caso Ruby) e il cui primo firmatario è l'esponte del Pdl Luigi Vitali. A spiegarlo è proprio l'ex sottosegretario alla Giustizia, sottolineando che l'obiettivo del provvedimento sarebbe quello di «responsabilizzare alcuni pm». Vitali parla più specificatamente di norme di cui «si sente il bisogno» dopo gli «abusi» sulle intercettazioni con i quali ci si «trova a fare i conti».
«INIZIATIVA APPROVATA DAL PREMIER» - Nella proposta di legge sono previste sanzioni disciplinari per pm e giudici «incompetenti» che autorizzano ascolti, ma anche «indennizzi» per imputati intercettati e poi prosciolti o per «soggetti estranei ai reati», come i testimoni, ma il cui contenuto delle conversazioni viene «sbattuto sui giornali». Il provvedimento, spiega Vitali, è stata depositato «tra fine ottobre e inizio novembre», la prossima settimana verrà presentato in conferenza stampa e poi se ne chiederà la calendarizzazione in commissione Giustizia alla Camera. Al premier (che la scorsa settimana in un videomessaggio ha detto che «i magistrati saranno puniti») la proposta di legge è stata presentata la scorsa settimana, quando c'è stata la riunione con i deputati-avvocati del Pdl: «Ha detto che la valuterà, ma è un'iniziativa che ha approvato, visto che finora c'è stato sempre qualcuno che ha bloccato la riforma organica della disciplina delle intercettazioni» spiega Vitali. La scorsa settimana il presidente del Consiglio, Silvio Berlusconi, in un videomessaggio, disse «i magistrati saranno puniti».

PROCEDIMENTO DISCIPLINARE PER PM INCOMPETENTI - La proposta firmata da Vitali e da altri colleghi (29 in tutto tra cui Cirielli, Cassinelli, Lehner) prevede l'introduzione dell'articolo 315-bis del codice di procedura penale, «concernente la riparazione per ingiusta intercettazione di comunicazioni telefoniche o di conversazioni». Di fatto, viene prevista una «nuova ipotesi di illecito disciplinare»: pm e giudici non competenti non possono autorizzare intercettazioni, altrimenti scatta nei loro confronti il procedimento disciplinare. Procedimento che, in base alle norme in vigore, è affidato a ministro della Giustizia e pg della Cassazione, i due titolari dell'azione disciplinare nei confronti delle toghe. Obiettivo del Pdl però «non è spuntare le armi ai pm», ci tiene a sottolineare l'ex sottosegretario, che rivendica come l'intenzione che lo ha guidato è quella di portare «responsabilità in questo settore». È per questo, spiega ancora Vitali, che si prevede anche un «indennizzo» di 100 mila euro: vale nel caso di imputati intercettati e poi prosciolti, ma anche di soggetti terzi le cui intercettazioni siano finite sui giornali. A pagarlo saranno gli stessi pm, dopo un vaglio di «responsabilità contabile» da parte della Corte dei conti per la «ingiusta intercettazione». Il testo Vitali prevede anche una norma che renderebbe le nuove disposizioni retroattive: il risarcimento è previsto, infatti, anche per chi è stato coinvolto in indagini fino a 5 anni prima della sua entrata in vigore.

Swg: precipita il Popolo della Libertà



Colpo di scena nei sondaggi. Attenzione, i dati relativi alla "tenuta" del Popolo della Libertà usciti negli ultimi giorni - nonostante lo scandalo Ruby - potrebbero non corrispondere al vero. E' l'opinione di Roberto Weber, presidente di Swg e uno dei più famosi ricercatori ed esperti elettorali in Italia, intervistato da Affaritaliani.it. "La quota di non rispondenti nelle ultimissime rilevazioni è aumentata notevolmente. Quindi dai numeri che vediamo tutto sembra come prima ma sotto si stanno muovendo cose molto significative. Quindi oggi i sondaggi non sono così attendibili come due mesi fa", spiega il numero uno dell'istituto di Trieste. "Tutto ciò significa che c'è uno smarrimento nei cittadini e una ricerca di nuovi 'ancoraggi' che non riusciamo a stimare".
"Questa nuova situazione impatta principalmente sui due partiti più grandi e soprattutto sul Pdl. I dati che abbiamo visto dopo il caso Ruby difficilmente sarebbero quelli reali in caso di elezioni anticipate, perché sono troppo alti. Tra gli intervistati è aumentata notevolmente la quota di reticenti".
Attualmente il Popolo della Libertà, secondo Swg, si colloca tra il 26 e il 27%... "ma è come il mare quando si ritira, non sappiamo come sarà quando torna al livello precedente. In sostanza - spiega Weber -, non ci sono corrispondenze tra le persone che chiedono le dimissioni di Berlusconi da presidente del Consiglio, molte, e le intenzioni di voto. In caso di ritorno alle urne, quindi, potrebbero esserci 'problemi' per il Cavaliere".
Il Partito Democratico "ha perso terreno nelle ultime settimane ed è sceso al 24-25%. Il Pd ha pagato qualcosa in termini di consenso dopo la vicenda Mirafiori, ovvero a causa dell'appoggio al piano Marchionne". Molto bene Sinistra Ecologia Libertà di Nichi Vendola, "al 7-8%" e nettamente sopra l'Italia dei Valori di Antonio Di Pietro, "ferma al 5%". L'Udc di Pierferdinando Casini "non è facile da stimare ma dovrebbe oscillare tra il 5 e il 6%". Forte la Lega Nord che "si conferma oltre il 10%". Infine in crescita Futuro e Libertà di Gianfranco Fini, "attorno al 7-8%".

L'intervista al direttore del Tg4 di Lucia Annunziata non è piaciuta al Cavaliere. In tv la più efficace è Daniela Santanché, per lei pronto l'incarico di coordinatrice unica del Pdl

Emilio Fede ha deluso il premier. Il direttore del Tg4, fedelissimo sostenitore del Cavaliere, si è lasciato intervistare da Lucia Annunziata a “In Mezz’Ora” sul caso Ruby. Berlusconi si attendeva una difesa appassionata, simile alle performance di Daniela Santanché. Invece ha assistito a una presa di distanza da parte di Fede. “Nessuna delle ragazze è mai stata invitata da me, a partire da Ruby”, ha detto, lasciando intendere che quindi ad Arcore le giovani le aveva chiamate il padrone di casa o l’agente Lele Mora. E comunque, ha aggiunto, “io me ne sono sempre andato via all’una di notte”, quindi ciò che accadeva dopo non è affar suo. Un’intervista, quella di Fede, che ha stupito negativamente il premier. E, complice anche il procedimento che l’ordine dei giornalisti di Roma sta avviando nei confronti del direttore del tg4, in casa Mediaset si sta valutando l’ipotesi di pensionamento per Emilio Fede.

Silvio Berlusconi sa di aver perso un amico e un soldato. Le truppe di Arcore sono già piuttosto esigue e di rinforzi non ce ne sono, come dimostrato dal gruppo dei responsabili cui il Pdl ha dovuto prestare due deputati per arrivare a 20 componenti così da poter vedere la luce in parlamento. Rimangono i fedelissimi, i generali per lo più in gonnella. E’ stato lo stesso premier a convocare le donne del Pdl a Palazzo Grazioli invocandole a impegnarsi attivamente. Finora in prima linea non si sono viste Prestigiacomo né Meloni, mentre la più attiva ed efficace è apparsa, agli occhi del Cavaliere, la sottosegretaria all’attuazione del programma.

Con la performance ad Annozero giovedì scorso Santanché si è guadagnata sul campo i galloni, più tiepide le difese del ministro Mara Carfagna a Matrix e di Mariastella Gelmini a Porta a Porta. Nell’area di Ballarò il premier ha inviato la “Bellucci della destra”, Anna Maria Bernini. Una prestazione deludente, la sua, tanto che Berlusconi telefona a Floris per intervenire in diretta ma il conduttore non passa la chiamata invitandolo a partecipare di persona. La migliore, agli occhi del premier, rimane in assoluto Daniela Santanché. Alle trasmissioni televisive considerate “pericolose” (Annozero e Ballarò in primis) l’ordine è quello di mandare lei, la sottosegretaria di ferro. Passata da una campagna elettorale, appena tre anni fa, contro Berlusconi (con lo slogan del tipo “Io non gliel’ho mai data”) a una difesa strenua e senza precedenti del premier. Se il Cavaliere riuscirà a passare indenne nell’ennesimo scandalo, il sottosegretario diventerà coordinatore unico del Pdl e sarà sicuramente premiata per il lavoro svolto.
