Ahahaha,già,oltre a "sapevatelo", c'è anche questa variante.Non la ricordavo.
Comunque adesso ci vorrebbe il cuoricione enorme che postavo di tanto in tanto tempo fa,ma non saprei dove andarlo a recuperare.Fate come se ci sia.

non lo sapevo che era patty smith la voce femminile, penso che avrà contribuito anche alla stesura del testo.

Si, è la voce unica di Patty Smith. Però, per quanto riguarda il testo,il merito va tutto a Michael Stipe. E' una lettera scritta e mai spedita. Non ha mai detto esplicitamente a chi fosse indirizzata. Anche se da alcuni riferimenti nel testo si può ipotizzare che sia stata scritta per River Phoenix,attore purtroppo scomparso troppo presto,nonchè suo grande amico. E anche la dedica all 'interno della copertina del singolo, sarebbe un' ulteriore conferma.
Ad ogni modo questa canzone(così come tante altre) dimostra ancora una volta la grande capacità di Michael Stipe nello scrivere testi che riescono ad evocare immagini e sensazioni come nessuno mai.
Anzi leggevo, che insieme al Bob Dylan degli inizi, ha rivoluzionato il modo di scrivere canzoni (e influenzato tanta musica a venire). Cioè, adesso non so spiegare bene, ma sono testi fatti di "salti",connessioni, immagini apparentemente distaccate. Insomma è qualcosa di lontano da un testo tradizionale, e forse proprio per questo, quelle parole riescono ad arrivare ancora più profondamente, lì dove invece la scrittura tradizionale non può spingersi perchè troppo legata alla logica.
Scusate la divagazione, ma per dirla in breve, lunga vita ai R.E.M. e a Michael Stipe.
