Per le regole basta spostare il tempo verbale del D.D. al tempo verbale immediatamente precedente nel D.I. (present simple-->past simple, ecc.).

Must diventa had to.

Will diventa would.

Can diventa could.

Ecc.

Poi alcuni modali non cambiano, tipo should, ought to e had better.

E i sostantivi, avverbi, ecc. di tempo vanno cambiati pure loro (tomorrow---> the day after/the following day, ecc.).
