Although guggul is available in its crude resin form, clinical studies have involved capsules and tablets that are purified to remove the insoluble components and standardized for guggulipid or guggulsterone concentration. Indeed the guggulipid dosage is usually based on guggulsterone concentration. Most commonly prescribed in clinical trials has been 25 mg of guggulsterones (or 500 mg of product standardized for 5% guggulsterone content), to be taken THREE TIMES DAILY. A comparable dose of the crude gum guggul powder would be 4 to 16 g per day divided into 3 doses
