Usano routine che prevedono la ciclizzazione, lo strappo e lo slancio, eserczi ausialiari e di supporto per i due sollevamenti da gara menzionati prima.
Non hanno routine eccessivamente voluminose, in genere, si allenano 3 volte a settimana.
Comunque l'allenamento da strongman, prevede l'uso di sollevamenti olimpici, ma strongman non è sinonimo di weightlifting.
Gli strongman usano esercizi "creati" per i loro eventi.
